Camping With the Kids

This summer I took my first ever camping trip without Steve. My brother and Dad really helped me a lot with setting up the tent and the heavy stuff. It was such a blessing!
We spent three days basking in sunshine, riding 4-wheelers, playing in the creek, and just plain old talking and teasing one another. We are blessed to have a family who gets along and likes to spend time with each other.
My brother-in-law and I gave the kids some lessons on shooting my old .22 and some gun safety. They had a BLAST!!!!
Isn't it just beautiful? I love the green grass and beautiful mountains behind the little cabin nestled in the valley.

We're about to take our first camping trip with the kiddos on Labor Day weekend! Exciting and yet scary, lol. Looks like you guys had a great, relaxing time and thank God for family. Any tips for taking small children camping?

Make all your meals ahead of time. I make spagetti, cowboy chili, you know, stuff you can pull out of the ice chest and reheat in a big pan.

Also, for breakfast I did instant oatmeal in paper bowls. The only dish I washed was my big pan and the big spoon.

It is so much nicer when you aren't cooking the whole time.

That's my kind of family, teaching the kids gun safety at a young age. I had to laugh when some moms asked me one time if I allowed my young son to play with toy guns. I said, "He doesn't need to, he has his own." He had inherited the family .22. Kids that are taught to respect guns, respect guns.

After that long, rambling thought...you were SO organized! Way to go. You really were able to enjoy the trip. We're leaving in two days so I need to get cooking.

Oooh my gosh that looks like a good time! We love camping, too...but does it still count if you are in a cozy motorhome? I always feel like we're cheating, like you aren't true campers unless you pitch a tent! But I love the woods, the wilderness, streams and all that. You don't need a tend to enjoy those blessings from nature. We do have a tent and sometimes dad and some kids will sleep in the tent while me and some of the little ones sleep in the motorhome. It's all good :)

And I agree with the poster above. Kids who are taught to respect guns, respect guns!

You were brave to go all by yourself! I don't know that I would want to tackle that one solo.
Bravo!

I love camping out in the middle of nowhere. We can be as crazy as we want and not annoy anyone. I don't have to lock up my dogs, they just have a blast following the kids around.

I'm learning to drive the truck and trailer so I can take it out with just the kids and I :) Then hubby can join us after work when convenient.

Katrina, it's not cheating at all! We wouldn't go if I wasn't comfortable and I'm not ashamed to say that ;)

MommaMindy, my son had a really cool old .22. My Mom raised me to be terrified of guns and I don't think that's healthy. Totally over it now. I'd rather they used guns so they have the respect like you said.
