Some New Furniture!

God has blessed us once again! We were able to purchase some new couches yesterday. I've never had matching furniture, so this is a huge thing for me.
We found these matching sofas/hide-a-beds at a clearance store. They are microfiber (which I'm not sure if I'm crazy about). The static electricity is unbelievable! You should see Jessica's hair (not a good combo!). We were looking at sectionals, but the sale's lady talked me out of it. Good thing, because they are twice as expensive.
One is kind of a sage color and the other is mocha.
This is a picture of the free couch (left) that we received at the beginning of the summer. Snickers chewed part of the bottom of it. The other is a couch we've had for years and years. We bought it for $35 and it sure got it's use.

It feels so good to get something a little nicer and hopefully will be more durable. Now, I'm trying not to freak when the kids spill or wipe their greasy hands on it! I need to just accept that it is going to happen and teach them to clean it themselves. All part of working on my anger, I guess. Also, since our furniture was always old, we always let the kids crawl all over and stand on it. We are in the process of teaching them how to sit on furniture properly. I know it's late, but better late than never!

Old habits are the toughest to break, that's for sure! We had a slipcover made for a sofa I found at a re-sale store...the slipcover is made from linen and cost far more than the sofa itself. Anyways...I would always be telling my grandson to go wash his greasy hands after eating before he could go back to play. Poor boy! Too bad, tho...I want my new stuff to look nice for as long as possible!
I also remember that it is just "stuff" and in the long run does not really matter.

Yea! Yea! Yea!!! I am SO HAPPY for you! How wonderful!!! We don't have anything covered in microfiber, but my cousin does, and she says their microfiber covered sofa looks as good today as it did six years ago when they bought it. Theirs is a mocha-ish colored one. I hope yours wears as well!

Also, I was encouraged to read your comment about working on your anger and teaching the children to clean it up themselves. I am SO THERE right now! I feel like everything I do gets undone faster than I can redo it...and I get angry...and then convicted...and then I'm apologizing and asking the Lord to help me have His perspective on things. It's such a hard cycle to break. Anyway...just glad to know I am not alone on that struggle.

I hope you and Steve can enjoy a little time to yourselves over the weekend on your great new sofas! Hooray for y'all! Thanking the Lord for His blessings to you!

I know what you mean. We've always had "hand me down" furniture and would like to purchase some newer ones but first we are trying to teach the kids to respect the furniture first, which is not an easy task at all.

Just like Farmgirl said, old habits are the toughest to break!

Dryer sheets do wonders for static electricity, Stacie. Just rub them every day. I actually keep one on my computer chair because I'm always electrified in my classroom...something my students don't appreciate all the time..

I love it Stacie, it is so exciting to get something special. You are a great mum and an example and reminder to all of us to be the same way. You are keeping it real and I love it.

So happy to hear of your new furniture. There are some good stain removers on the market to help keep the couches clean. Enjoy and the children will learn to respect the furniture, eventually. I think everyone of us has an anger management problem. Mine isn't quite so bad now that my kids are older. But keep giving it to the Lord and counting to 10 b4 saying anything helps! Hugs and enjoy your new furniture. Nice colors!!

The good news is that I've heard microfiber is easy to clean. Hope that is true! Love the new couches. I look forward to sipping coffee with kids climbing all over us! So happy for you, Stace! And the best part is that you didn't have to go into debt for it. Good things come to those who wait!

Stacie, what beautiful sofa's and they are so spacious too! Your children look as though they are thrilled with them. Microfibre is so lovely, my Mother-In-Law has it covering a few of her kitchen chairs and the Grandchildren all love to stroke them haha! Also like Kimberly commented; I love your coat racks, they are so neat and tidy, I could really use something like that! I hope you guys all enjoy your new furniture!
